In case you have forgotten your root password for MySQL database, you can change it by first killing all mysql processes with:
killall mysql or /etc/init.d/mysql stop (for Debian users)
Now you have to start mysql again with this command:
mysqld --skip-grant-tables &
One thing that really bothers me is a balloon tip that appears every time I reconnect to my home WiFi. Simplest solution is to disable balloon tips by using RegEdit. Open up this branch:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
Add this DWORD value: “EnableBalloonTips” and set it’s value to “0” (zero).
Balloon tips will be disabled after your next logon.
After you tried to log in with root user three times and got the message “maximum number of log ins exceeded” you have to restart the computer.
On the GRUB menu, press “E” once to enable edit, and press “E” again on the kernel line to edit it. Near the end of this line change value “ro” to “rw” and add “init=/bin/bash” at the end of this line.
Now boot into Linux and you will have root shell access where you can change the password or do whatever you please.
If mysql-bin.xxxyyy logs are eating up your partition space. This is the right trick for you:
# login to mysql mysql -u root -p # create latest log mysql-bin.0000xy flush logs; # purge all logs before mysql-bin.0000xy purge binary logs to 'mysql-bin.0000xy';
In order to minimize writing to disk you could try to move your firefox cache folder into /tmp we created earliner in our RAM.
In your “about:config” add the following entry:
browser.cache.disk.parent_directory
add a string value of “/tmp”.
Ofcourse your cache will be erased each time you reboot, but who cares we are trying to minimize disk usage, so that we can prolong our battery life.
Since I have created 100MB /tmp drive, I have decided to leave firefox cache at the default setting of 50000 (50MB).
